The Writing Strike and The Rest of Us

Unless you have literally been lost on an island as of late, you have undoubtedly heard of the Writer’s Strike going on right now that has caused a nearly 1.5 billion dollar loss of revenue for hollywood studios, canceled the Golden Globes, and has threatened ABC-TV’s Lost.

That’s right. If you haven’t heard, there are 8 completed episodes of lost. That is half of the promised 16 that were supposed to air this season. If the writer’s strike does not end soon, those 8 episodes will be (*cough*) lost.

Is it too late? Over at The Fuselage, Jorge Garcia, our beloved Hugo “Hurley” Reyes commented that “I believe we are still within the time frame that would allow us to finish the season without disrupting the flow of the season. But obviously that window is closing fast.” Keep in mind, this comment was made in November. Is the window closed now?

There is hope in the headlines, but I can’t help feel a sense of foreboding. With only 8 episodes to air, ABC-TV will have to try hard to keep the Lost fan base interested and growing. Tie-ins such as find815.com will certainly help, but I do not know if they will be enough. What will it take to keep you interested?

I hope the strike ends soon and maybe Lost can be aired with a mid season hiatus like last season. If not, things will certainly be precarious for our beloved “losties.”
