Lost Via Domus - Another Opportunity to be Lost

I wrote earlier in the week about find815.com, an Alternate Reality Game (ARG) available to any lost fan with a personal computer, a web browser, and broadband internet.  The game is good for satisfying a craving for Lost until ABC-TV brings our beloved series back to us on January 31st.

On February 26th, the world of Lost welcomes Lost Via Domus.  The game is currently being released for the PC, Xbox360, and the PS3 video game systems.

The current buzz about the video game is pretty good.  It is advertised as a third-person “survival / adventure” game and is being developed and distributed by Ubisoft.  It takes place with a “parallel” story line to the ABC-TV series, and events will happen simultaneously to the series.  In true Lost fashion, the story will unfold over the series of seven “episodes” that are reported to take approximately 10 hours to complete for an avid game-player.

In Lost Via Domus, you will play a Lostie name Eliot Maslow (as in hierarchy of needs, the Lost double-entendre is in full force).  Eliot is a photographer and survivor of the Oceanic 815 crash.  After waking on the beach, you have a nasty case of amnesia, and as the game unfolds, each episode and flashback will bring your memories closer to complete. As you solve multiple puzzles and complete tasks,  you will interact with the Lost characters, but the voice acting will be supplied by sound-alikes.

At the official website, you can check out a trailer.  The gameplay looks reasonably solid, the environments are nice, and it looks like Ubisoft has done their research when it comes to character models.

I have one big question (ok, two questions, but I won’t ask when it is coming out on the Wii), If the writer’s strike doesn’t end soon, will this be the new direction of lost?  Will lost fans be forced to live out the story lines in games, simulations, and interactive realities? If so, is that a bad thing?  What do you think?  Sound off in the comments.
