Lost Episode “Eggtown” - Review and Comments

If you haven’t seen epidose 4.04, “Eggtown”, this post will contain spoilers. If you are Mr. or Mrs. TiVo, please don’t read on…

Some would argue that Lost Episode 4.04, “Eggtown”, was not as dynamic or exciting as the the first three of the season. The rate the episode poll (including my vote) would agree. This was the first episode I gave a 4 to instead of a 5.

Don’t get me wrong, there were some fantastic moments, but this episode seemed like the “breather” in the middle of a marathon. The court room scenes, Kate and her mother, and the mushy Kate and Sawyer stuff slowed things down.

Here are the standouts for me, and the threads I will be dedicating myself to writing about this next week.

KateAaron - Huge WTF moment here. How did Kate end up with Aaron. I have a few theories, and I will discuss them later. I haven’t decided which way I am going to bet on this one. I have to decide if how much I distrust Kate, and if I want Claire to die or not. More on this later.

Kate is cut throat - It occurred to me last night that Kate is the character that has been in survival mode the longest. She was a survivor years before she even crashed landed. In fact, that is the main reason that Kate adjusted to the island so quickly, she was used to surviving. Jack, Locke, and many of the others had lives of fixing or being victims. Even Sawyer was a predator. Kate was the only professional prey.

Locke is getting dark - I will definitely explore this one in a later post. Locke’s desperation is forcing him into the darkest places. He is starting to resemble Ben on many levels. Is it because the island is inherently dark, so when you decide to embrace and protect it you are turning to the dark side? Or is it that the island is so desperate because all of the recent arrivals, the breaking of the hatch, and its discovery that it is requiring desperate measures from its inhabitants?

The Freighter Four - Miles is a twit. Faraday is broken on several levels, but I like him - he has an Einsteinian quality - he is a very smart, very complicated, very simple man. Charlotte is dangerous; she is hiding something, and she is very smart. Who is Minkowski (if you saw the preview of next week, I have a theory on this - I’ll cover it later).

If any of these threads interest you, check back throughout the week as I expand them. If there is anything else you want me to cover, let me know in the comments.

I thought it was very revealing when we hear Jack lie in court and then figure out that is the story he has been telling every since they returned. Only 8 of us survived the crash…..

My big question is if he (Jack) knows that Aaron is the child, or if Kate got off of the island seperately and Jack thinks that Kate’s baby is Sawyers… Because Jack is established as a liar, there is no telling where the truth starts or stops.

Im also wondering what was up with Charlotte and Daniel with the cards and memory thing. Was something different about Daniels memory, good or bad, due to being on the island?

  5. Who Dies on Lost This Week? : Lost on March 19, 2008 12:03 pm

[...] dies. Desmond also sees Claire get on the helicopter, but as we saw in Kate’s episode, “Eggtown,” Aaron is with Kate and not Claire. Something happens between the time Desmond vision ends and Kate [...]
