Desmond and the Oceanic 6

According to Jacks lie testimony, there were 6 survivors that return from the island. These, so far, include Sayid, Jack, and Kate. I don’t believe that counts Aaron. I also don’t believe that Kate is trying to fool anyone into think Aaron is hers. There is a deeper story there.

If you remember from episode 4.04 “Eggtown”, Jack alludes to a heroic tale where Kate rescues the six, and tries desperately to save two of them. For a moment, I thought that Jack might have though Kate’s child was from Sawyer, and Kate and Jack get rescued separately. I don’t think that anymore. Jack, and I am confident about this, is forced to make a very dark decision to rescue himself, and that there is a major loss of life involved in the decision. Hence Jacks breakdown. Aaron represents that bloody choice.

So, what do we do about Desmond? If you saw the preview for this week’s episode, then you will remember that there was a scene where a short-haired Desmond is tossing around a long-haired Daniel Faraday.

Desmond and Faraday

I believe this is clearly a flash forward (when Desmond and Faraday meet on the island, they do not recognize eachother) , and it is obvious that Desmond gets off the island. He is not one of the Oceanic 6 however because he was not on the flight manifest. I don’ know how they will explain Desmond’s presence, but it will be interesting.

Now remember that every time that Desmond travels around in time, there are ramifications in the past. Is it possible that his fight with Faraday is the cause of Daniel’s brain damage in the past?

Desmond and his manipulation of time is essential in understanding this story. I hope that this episode, because of Desmond’s involvement, will give some more insight into the time mystery that is growing.
