Desmond and the Potential of Time Travel

TimeIn episode 4.05, “The Constant”, time travel was confirmed by Desmond. It wasn’t they type of time travel some would have expected. Desmond travels via his consciousness. It nearly drives him mad, and it killed Minkowski, but Desmond ends up being ok. Does he realize how much power he has?

Daniel Faraday makes the comment that the future cannot be changed, but then he proves that it can. Not only does Eloise the mouse have her future radically changed, but Daniel’s future changes as well because his notebook changes. I am interested to know if Daniel will be more “together” next week now that he has found his “constant”

Now, here is a thought. What would happen if people who know the power that the island are able to harness and control their time shifting. Would you be able to become fantastically wealthy like Penny’s Father and his Widmore foundation? Would you become incredibly knowledgeable like Ben? Yes. What if many people on the island can time travel, and what if they can do it at will? Is the black-box that Ben refers to a metaphor for the concept of time travel?

Just a thought.

The Orchid station video spoke of the experiments there creating a kind of Casimir effect’ which opens a can of worms to all who wish to investigate the statement. This effect is, at first, complicated but with further reading the simplicity will come.

In a shortened form of explanation, this effect is a newly found force between two objects in a vacuum. It is akin to floodgates on a river; floodgates slow the water flow in respect to the river’s speed. One can then use the potential of the river whether for power or irrigation with a more predictable outcome. The Casimir effect shows the same thing. When two uncharged plates are placed in a vacuum, the area between these plates reduces the electromagnetic forces passing through the vacuum. The energy density of this area between these plates is smaller than the energy density from the surrounding vacuum and the plates. The result is a tiny force which attracts the plates and tries to pull them together. The biggest thing here is to realize that the plate energy density is negative in respect to the vacuum. Einstein proved that spatial wormholes were a possibility but he said that a negative energy density would be needed for this to occur!

    Stable wormholes?

Don’t get Start Trek on me. Wormholes don’t just throw you across the galaxy but are capable of dimensional travel and maybe just maybe alternate time-line jumps. What if after years of DHARMA tests to change Mankind’s fate, they concluded that the outcome was inevitable? If faced with the fact of extinction, would not someone try to repopulate Man elsewhere? What if these scientist found a way to open up a wormhole and realized that at that moment they spurred an alternate timeline on an Earth just like ours but with a very different possible scenario … this alternate Earth would have a past as well as a present but it’s future would not hold the 4 8 15 16 23 42 constants of our own.

Suddenly the rabbit hole just got a lot deeper than expected.
