Mira Furlan

EDIT: Thanks to reader Moyra who pointed out that Mira Furlan lives in Los Angeles, not Croatia. Read more in her comment.  THANKS!

Mira Furlan, the actress behind Danielle Rousseau, is dead; we learned that last week. What we didn’t know is why she died or if she would stay dead. After all, this is Lost.

Well, it turns out that Mira hated Hawaii. Yep that’s right, she was tired of living on the island. Her husband was interviewed in a Croatian magazine, and spilled the beans on Rousseau’s fate. Here’s the details:

Why did your wife stopped shooting ”Lost?”?
She got bored of Hawaii. She got ”island fever” - that’s how cast of Lost calls it in joke. Simply, she didn’t want to be on that island, she didn’t want to work that job, so she made a deal with the producers to kill her character off.

How did they kill her off?
Shot her. But, her character is pretty popular with fans of the series, so they leaved possibility for comeback next season.”

There you have it. She is dead-dead - by choice. We’ll see if she is back next year.

You are aware that Mira Furlan hasn’t lived in Croatia for 17 years? She’s an American citizen and lives in LA.

Mira and her husband Goran have a son, who is not yet 10. Goran is in Belgrade directing a TV series. Mira would probably rather be with their son in LA, than hanging out in Hawaii, being used as an extra. It’s likely that the problem was not so much being *IN* Hawaii as it was being where her son is not.

Guess this means I can officially give up hope for a Crazy FRench Woman flashback. They never explained what exactly made her crew ‘crazy’, having Alex, having her taken, etc… Maybe they were saving it for later when the islands true nature comes back to the forefront as a story line. We loved Mira on babylon 5 and were glad to see her on Lost. Lost is a MUCH better show! We’ll miss her too.
