I knew going into this episode, the first hour of a three hour finale. that things would be a bit weak, and they were. some stand out moments belonged to Jack, still in charge off the island, and Ben, still twisting and warping reality.
As always, if you have not seen the episode, don’t read ahead.
Overall this episode was ok. It was exposition, and it did that job well. It was nice to see how the Oceanic 6 was off the island. It was also nice to see them connect with their families. Did you notice that Kate and Jack’s mom could have been sisters? Creepy.
Also, Hurley’s paranoia and connection with the island were already in overdrive. It will be interesting to see what else happens in the first few days off the island next week. Sun’s motivations against her father were also very intriguing. If her father is a power player in the Ben / Widmore battle, then Sun’s powerplay will have some interesting ramifications in the upcoming seasons.
This episode, while weak, is the perfect setup for the next two-hours. Here are the few standout moments.
The Blackrock Sequel - Anybody remember a ship on an island filled with dynamite? Yeah, that was the Blackrock. Now, there is a freighter floating around in the ocean loaded with enough C4 to rearrange a small continent. It would seem that not only is time repeating itself, but so are events. The loop these poor people is in is eating them alive.
Ben’s Special Package – Who was Ben signaling? I think it is relatively obvious that it was Richard and company. They certainly outnumber the freighter folks and are better armed, but who knows where their allegiances will lie. Did anyone notice the oddness to which Ben’s attention was drawn to his package. It was almost like it wasn’t what he needed, then suddenly it was. As if the moment shifted. Did he make a mental note at that moment to go into the past and put the package their? If so, Ben is bada$$ and his power is nearly limitless.
Daniel really is probably a good guy. – His notes new about the Orchid. Daniel has done all of this before, but he does not remember it. I am thinking that Daniel will become very important next season. I think there is something he fails at, then sends himself back for. I hope he does in fact end up on the right side – whatever that is.
What the heck is Ben’s plan? – And what exactly under the Orchid. We will see.
That is all, is there anything you saw and I missed? Sound off!

I do agree about Daniel, I think he will be an intregal character next season, same for Charolotte and Miles. As for Ben, he is a badass, but I do not think he tossed himself back in time for what happened there.
Im of the opinion that his arm injury from a few episodes ago happens in his battle with the frieghtors and Keamy and he “jumps” in time just before Keamy kills him….
I wonder what (exactly) is under the Orchid too, but I think that is the time machine. I think the guys who are already there work for Widmore and are planning to turn it off so that island-time will allign itself with off-island time. Then, Widmore can get to the island and use the time machine to his advantage.
I think Locke was told to “move the island” meaning further back in time, thus creating a new timeline to prevent this from happening. Ben knows this is what they need to do, thats why he is not wasting any time. The bad guys want to kill Ben b/c they know he is coming to try and sabatoge their plan, b/c obviously he and the Others want the island to stay as it is-where time never changes. This is what I can only surmise…
I think the Oceanic 6 are in shock b/c they know about the time travelling, and were paid off to keep it a secret from the rest of the world b/c one could only imagine what this information if exposed, would do to society. Hurley has completely gone off the deep end b/c he just can’t fathom all this. It has drove him crazy to the point where he has literally convinced himself that they are all dead b/c its easier to believe that than to accept the reality of what has happened to all of them, (remember the episode when jack visits him in the psychiatric hospital and he tells jack they are all dead).
Oops! Sorry this post is so long. Didn’t mean for it to be. Well, what do you all think? I don’t know, I could be way off. Any ideas?
I think that The Orchid is a place that can destroy the island – Thus Daniel’s exclamation that they need to get off the island when they find out that Keamy and company are going to the Orchid.
I think that Keamy and his men set the island to blow and get back to the ship by Helicopter. I think that Michael stays behind and has a redemptive death as he blows up the ship and Keamy’s guys when they land. Meanwhile the Oceanic six rapidly exit the freighter and cannot get back to the island because ben has moved the island.
By moving the island, I think that the electromagnetics are changed so that the bearing is different in getting to the island (not faithful 305 anymore)
next season will focus on Ben’s missions as he travels around the world and through time, the Oceanic 6 (minus aaron) trying to get back to the island, interaction between the losties/widmore’s scientists and the others, and so much more that I cannot figure our right now.
