Sadistic Ben Spills His Secrets

Some guys get all the love. There is just something about Michael Emerson and his character Ben that intrigues and draws the attention of both audiences and press. I have seen more interview with Emerson then any other characters. Maybe it is the sadistic tendencies of Ben, or his deep dark secrets. Whatever it is, another quality Emerson interview has popped up.

Over at the New York Mag, there is a great interview with Emerson. In the piece, there are a few great spoilers about next season and the direction of his alter ego Ben. The article is a bit “spoilerish” but I don’t think it will ruin anyones day if you give a good read. As an English Teacher and writer, the question that popped out to me was:

Ben is often reading or quoting authors. Do you take the time to read the books he does?
There are no accidents in the world of props on Lost—the books are carefully chosen. This season, there’s a scene where I’m reading Ulysses by James Joyce. It’s on my winter reading list.
